Mini-Raceday F21
HOW IT WENT
Mini-Raceday for Fall 2021 was held on Saturday, November 6th. It was held on the same day as Homecoming, and featured a livestream, photography, and timing from the BAA to make it a somewhat bigger event than it has been in the past.
On our end at SPIRIT, we always try to make MIni-Raceday a bigger event and emphasize its importance as our best opportunity in the fall to mark our progress since we would get our first official times.
SPIRIT Eboard VP, Anyah Steimpen-Smith, held a poster-making session at SPIRIT House the night before for the team. They were going to be used to cheer the team on, but were instead hung around Maggie Mo.
At this point in the semester, all buggy teams had gotten just 5 days of rolls, which is relatively low, but everyone made do. It seemed to be a good day for all the teams out.
We pre-made the lineup for Mini-Raceday to try out some push team combos. We chose 2 buggies to be timed, KP and Zuke driven by Chloe Lenker and Gloria Moon, respectively. We also had some new drivers during each roll, as we still aimed to get them some rolls and get them off of bags, - Avi Wong in Inviscid and Melina Castillo in Seraph. We did not time any buggies on the first roll, but timed buggies on the second 2 rolls of the day.
We had munchkins per usual (as long as we were allowed to by COVID-19 rules), also had a lot of leftover halloween candy from our Squid Game event, and some old shirts available for the team.

A WORD FROM THE CHAIRS
WE GOT FASTEST AND SLOWEST TIMES OF THE DAY LET’S GOOOOO
Overall, we are happy with how Mini-Raceday went, primarily for the fact that the mechanics were able to get out on time, the pusher lineup was followed (like 95% of the time..it was a little messed up which caused some confusion), everyone who RSVP’d showed up (all green check marks on the attendance sheet!), no stops in the chute, and everything was clean. This is how we expect rolls to go every time! Clean! The cleaner we practice, the better we’ll be.
As for times, we are happy we achieved what we did and proud of the team. We do still emphasize we have work to do! We are analyzing the results to see how we can move forward. We’re working, and we gotta get more of the team out. Looking forward to upcoming rolls and the Spring semester!
